Sacrifice Bunts

“Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.”
Philippians 2:3-4

In baseball a sacrifice bunt is a play in which the batter is called on to lay down a bunt in order to advance a runner and put him in scoring position. A successful sacrifice bunt can put the winning run in scoring position and be a game changer. The batter who has successfully executed a sacrifice bunt does not get credit for an official at bat and the bunt often will not show up in the game summary. Yet this sacrifice bunt might significantly alter the outcome of the game.

As Advent approaches, we can look for new opportunities to serve others. It is often the small, unheralded things we do for others that can have the biggest impact. Our act of kindness might put someone in “scoring position” and might even be a game changer in their life.
