By The Refugee Resettlement Committee
So many of us grow up dreaming about the day we will own a home of our own. That has also been true for our first refugee family. Now, thanks in part to the wider Westminster family, that dream has come true for them.
As background, their early dreams in America centered on getting a car and then a home. Through the blessing of a Westminster family, they received a car, which allowed them to focus their budgeting and savings efforts toward creating a down payment for a home of their own. They’ve worked hard to do just that. And now the time has come.
Why now? In their time here, they have been blessed with a wonderful, supportive landlord. Recently, though, the owners decided to place the rental house on the market. That meant that, one way or another, the family would need to move. The search began. They knew they wanted to stay in the school district that has been so supportive of their children. And then, it happened. A wonderful, well-kept house came on the market. They made an offer – under ask! – and it was accepted. The closing was scheduled for late November – a wonderful Thanksgiving to be sure.
We wish it could be all good news. Sadly, our second family has an inattentive, unresponsive landlord. They will also now look to move. And we will be there to help them every step of the way. Beginnings and endings – both need our prayers. We ask that you continue to remember in your prayers these two families who have become so dear to the Westminster team.
