DESCRIPTION:Veritas is going out into the community to collect food donations for SHIM’s food pantry. DESCRIPTION:Freedom House Ambulance Service was established in 1967 by Freedom House\, a Pittsburgh civil rights organization that offered training and assistance to unemployed Black men and women. This service was created for the people of the Hill District who were not receiving the care that was needed\, and because of this\, we now have the emergency services that we know of today across the U.S.   \nJoin us as John tells the extraordinary story of an unjustly forgotten group of Black men in Pittsburgh who became the first paramedics in America\, saving lives and changing the course of emergency medicine around the world. \nAbout the Speaker\nJohn Moon is a former Freedom House emergency medical technician and retired Assistant Chief of Pittsburgh Emergency Medical Service. John was raised in Pittsburgh’s Hill District and joined Freedom House\, America’s First Emergency Medical Service\, in 1972. He continued to work in emergency medicine for more than five decades and now works to preserve Freedom House legacy and mentor the next generation of emergency and community responders in Pittsburgh. \nRegister today.

DESCRIPTION:A fun small group experience which places about 8 to 10 people together for a meal or an activity! The group decides which time and date works best for them. The first meeting is all about getting to know people you may know or may not know in our church. This opportunity is open to anyone who enjoys meeting\, conversing and usually eating. Meals are usually decided by the host and members of the group are encouraged to supply a side or dessert. If cooking seems overwhelming to you\, take out or meeting at a restaurant is definitely an option. Some examples in the past have been pizza and game nights\, taco night\, a restaurant and bowling night. The goal is to get together and have fun. DESCRIPTION:Join us for contemplative worship centered on the themes of healing and wholeness\, featuring candlelight\, songs\, scripture\, time for silent reflection with singing bowls\, prayer\, and laying on of hands for those who would like to participate. “Laying on of hands” is a practice in the Presbyterian tradition where we simply place a hand on a person’s shoulder as a representation of God’s Spirit resting on them. It is a powerful reminder of the prayers of the community and God’s presence with us as we cry out to God.
